Transfers from General Fund-.
$329,104
$355,940

The village's General Fund must fund the Police Department, a large portion of parks and recreation expenses, community environment projects, services and operation of the Depot Senior Civic Center, administrative operating expenses, as well as transfers to several other funds besides street maintenance. The General Fund balance has been steadily declining, and it is no longer possible to maintain these transfers at the current level.

IF I VOTE FOR THIS LEVY, WILL THE ADDITIONAL REVENUES COVER THIS ENTIRE FUNDING GAP?
The proposed two mil levy will NOT cover this entire funding gap. In fact, the proposed levy is projected to generate only about $165,000 per year. The village will still need to appropriate an equal amount each year from the general fund to maintain current levels of service and our current street improvement program. However, the amount that will need to be transferred will be at a level that will keep the General fund and the Street Funds solvent for the next five years. Without this additional revenue, serious cuts in street maintenance and improvement programs will be necessary beginning in 2007.

WHAT WILL THE LEVY COST ME IF I VOTE YES?
The proposed levy will cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $4.00 per month. This amounts to less than $0.14 per day.

WHAT BENEFIT WILL I SEE FROM THIS LEVY?
This levy will allow the village to maintain the same high level of street maintenance and the same program of street resurfacing as we have provided in recent years. These services include;
  • Ice and snow removal that is timely and efficient, keeping village streets safe through the winter months.
  • Pot-hole repairs, crack sealing and other maintenance work that keeps our streets smooth and safe for motorists, and reduces wear and damage to your vehicles.
  • Spring clean-up of yard waste, and the processing of that waste into mulch that is offered for sale to village residents at a very attractive cost.
  • A pavement management system (map) that monitors our pavement conditions, and provides for appropriate maintenance activities to extend the life of our pavements as long as possible.
  • A Resurfacing program that replaces pavements that are near the end of their useful life, or approximately every 10-12 years depending on traffic volumes and loading.
  • Street sweeping of all village streets 3-4 times each year, keeping our community clean, and improving storm water quality from street runoff.
  • Roadside mowing and mowing of storm water detention areas, drainage ways and other public sites to keep our neighborhoods looking attractive.
  • Sign and traffic signal maintenance and traffic markings to regulate traffic and keep it moving smoothly and safely.
  • A comprehensive mosquito control program to treat wetlands and wooded areas, and spraying of our parks and residential neighborhoods at least twice each month from late spring until early fall. This minimizes the risks from mosquito bourne illness.
  • A leaf collection program in the fall that is both convenient and efficient. The village usually completes 3-4 passes throughout the village each fall.

If you wish to maintain each of the above services at their current level,
you must vote
YES on the Lexington Street Maintenance and Improvement Levy on May 2nd.
